AllegroMenu

For restaurants that cook properly and file badly

The inspector asks for your allergens. What do you hand over?

Your kitchen knows. The chef could recite every dish with her eyes shut, and the waiter who has been here six years knows which sauce has mustard in it.

But the folder in the drawer is a photocopy from two menus ago, the waiter who knows is off on Tuesdays, and none of it is in a language the couple on table four can read. The cooking was never the problem. The paperwork is.

What it costs to leave it as it is

EU Regulation 1169/2011 makes the 14 allergens compulsory information wherever food is served, and it has to exist in writing — not in someone's memory. What happens when it does not is set by each country. Spain puts numbers on it:

Minor
up to €5,000
Formal gaps: signage nobody can read, paperwork nobody can find
Serious
€5,001–20,000
No allergen information at all, or out of date after a menu change
Very serious
from €20,001
An allergic guest is actually harmed

And an inspection rarely finds one thing. In March 2026 a restaurant near Rome was fined more than €20,000 in a single visit; a menu with no allergen information was one of the findings, alongside staff who had not been declared. The menu was not the expensive part — it was the cheap part, and it was the easiest one to have fixed in advance.

Ley 17/2011, art. 51 (Spain). The Rome-area penalty was reported in the local press in March 2026 and was not itemised by offence. Other member states set their own amounts; the obligation itself is the same across the EU. This is information, not legal advice.

It is an afternoon, not a system

You do not have to change how you cook, buy software, or train anyone. You photograph the menu you already print, tick what is in each dish, and print the result.

    Photograph the menu

The one on the table today. Your dishes come back listed, with the allergens that are obvious from the text already suggested.

One row per dish, 14 boxes. Suggestions are only suggestions — nothing is marked on your menu until you confirm it. This part is free.

Print it, and put it in the folder

A4, one page per language, the allergen number next to every dish and the legend underneath. The QR code opens the same thing on a guest's phone.

The 14, in every language

Each dish carries its numbers, and the legend is printed in each of the 10 languages you choose — so the guest reads it, not just the inspector.

You declare, we typeset

AllegroMenu never marks an allergen on its own. You are the food business operator and the declaration stays yours; what we remove is the transcribing.

Nothing to lose by trying

Reading the menu and ticking the boxes costs nothing — you pay €19.90 only when you download. And if the result is not right, we refund it within 14 days.

What owners ask about this

Does this make me compliant?

No — and be careful with anyone who says it does. Compliance is your declaration being accurate. What AllegroMenu does is turn what you declare into a menu and a legend that an inspector, and a guest, can actually read. If you tick the wrong box, the printed page will be wrong too.

We already have an allergen sheet in a folder.

Then you are ahead of most. The gap is usually that the folder and the menu drift apart after a change of dishes, and that the folder is in one language. Here they are the same document, reprinted together.

Do I have to put a QR code on the tables?

No. The PDF is the product; the QR code comes with it and you can ignore it. Plenty of owners print the paper and never hang the code.

What if the photo gets a dish wrong?

You fix it before paying. Everything arrives in an editable grid — names, descriptions, prices and allergens — and nothing is charged until you download.

Our menu changes every week.

Then reprint it every week: editing and re-downloading is part of it. The one-time payment covers this menu; Menu Live at €119.00 a year is there if you want the web version to keep up too.

Is this legal advice?

No. The figures on this page are the statutory ranges published in Spanish law, quoted so you can look them up. For what applies to your business in your country, ask someone qualified.

Not a demo of somebody else's restaurant — yours. Photograph it and look at the result before deciding anything. You pay only if you download it.
